Puyallup’s Fall Art & Wine Walk is next Saturday

This is a guest post from Kevin Nehls, friend, client and co-owner of Dog Daze Natural Pet Market located in Puyallup, Washington.

Come on out and stroll around downtown Puyallup for the Fall Art & Wine Walk which will take place on October 3, 2009 from 3:00 – 7:00 pm in downtown Puyallup.

This is a great chance to get out and enjoy a wonderful downtown atmosphere while enjoying some excellent wines and admiring the art scattered around the downtown area.  This season's theme is influenced by the Beatles, "Come Together", is exactly what this event all about.

The inspiring piece of art for this year's theme is titled "I Am Saved" created by Jack Widmann, Vice Principal at Kalles Jr. High.  This piece of art is comprised of 190 pen and ink drawings, with each drawing representing the artist's impression of a single Beatles' song.  The entire piece, when assembled, is a composition of the Beatles.

While strolling around to the different shops, sampling fine blended wines, you will be treated to music by the famous Haggis Brothers as well as works of art created by members of Valley Arts United and Arts Downtown.

This season the Fall Art & Wine Walk is also supporting Multicare's Grannies Attic through a children's clothing and toy drive.  Please bring any new or gently used clothing and toy items to the participating downtown merchants who will have a sign in their front window or bring items directly to Grannies Attic anytime they are open.

Tickets are $20 per person and you get a commemorative wine glass and 8 drink tickets.  Additional drink tickets are available for $1.  Tickets can be purchased here.

The Ruby Room

I just received an invite from on of my clients to attend a fashion show at The Paramount.  This isn’t just any fashion show–it’s for The Ruby Room.   The Ruby Room is a local non-profit that helps provide teens in financial need with gowns, shoes and accessories for their high school prom.

The event (which is The Ruby Room’s only fundraiser) takes place September 6, 2008 from 7:00-11:00 pm.  For more information or to purchase tickets, click here and create memories for a young lady by helping her attend her high school dance.

Please Help Angie fight Breast Cancer

Angie wants to walk in the Breast Cancer 3-Day event but needs to raise $2,200 or she will not be allowed to participate.  Angie is walking for her Aunt Em and so far has raised just over $500.  She has a ways to go to make the required amount to participate in the walk.   And does it really matter to us who she’s walking for?  We don’t know Aunt Emily and you may not know Angie.  We do know people who are fighting breast cancer.  I  personally lost a dear friend and co-worker this past year.  I’ve lost family members.  We have all lost someone to breast cancer.  Here is a woman who wants to do something by walking for 3 days (60 miles, I believe) and needs help in order to do so.  Breast cancer touches all of us.

Please consider making a donation for towards breast cancer and to allow her to walk for her Aunt Emily and for all of us.  Donate what ever you can.  For more information, or to donate, please click here.

THANK YOU!

Happy 80th Birthday, JP Patches!

How perfect that not only is it Good People Day, that it also JP Patches 80th birthday.  If you’re a long time reader of Mortgage Porter, you know I’m a Patches Pal who has watched him since I was a tyke.

Today’s article in the Seattle PI also announced that the Statue will be complete and unveiled in Fremont on August 17, 2008!  Donations are still needed and JP’s handsome mug will remain on my blog (right side of the page) until the fundraising is complete.

It looks like the statue has changed from what was previously unveiled…I wonder if it Jp1ststatue was the finger issue?  During the unveiling at Fremont last year, the statue featured waving hands of the duo and someone (can’t remember if it was JP, Gertrude or from the crowd) said…"wonder how long until someone breaks off the fingers leaving just one?"

A tip of the hat to The Tim of Seattle Bubble.

Congratulations to Dawn’s Army

Dawn

Dawn’s Army recently climbed 69 flights of the Columbia Tower as part of The Big Climb: an event to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.   Dawn’s Army consists of her family members and a crew from The Talon Group, where she was employed when she was diagnosed with leukemia.

You can tell their leader, Dawn Robandtim(pictured above), is quite proud of her team raising over $6,000 for this worthy cause.

You can still donate to LLS to help fight blood cancers.

Pictured to the right is "Gomer" and Tim Daniels, Chief Title Officer of The Talon Group and members of Dawn’s Army.

Note:  As soon as I have a group troop photo, I’ll post it here!

Here’s the troop photo:
