I’m sad to learn that Patrick Sand suddenly passed away. I first met Patrick in August 2007 at an event KOMO hosted to bring together local bloggers. There were over 200 bloggers in attendance, and it was a lot of fun to meet fellow bloggers. At the time, I was a contributor to Rain City Guide and this blog, The Mortgage Porter, was almost a year old as well as a small neighborhood blog that my husband and I write, Beach Drive Blog.
I believe that West Seattle Blog started in 2005. The blog had really gained momentum as a news and community resource for West Seattle. But at that time, nobody knew who the contributors were to the blog. One of the reasons I went to the KOMO event hoping to meet the mysterious West Seattle Blogger(s).
Patrick introduced himself to me as “a friend of West Seattle Blog”. I tried to get him to admit he was one of the authors and he would not confess. He wanted me to know that the West Seattle Bloggers thought I was doing a nice job with my blogs. It was (still is) a huge compliment. I can’t recall exactly when Tracy Record and Patrick Sand announced they were the couple behind WSB but I will always remember meeting Patrick for the first time.
You could count on seeing Patrick and Tracy at any West Seattle event and if you ever want to know “what’s going on” in West Seattle, WSB is the first place you check. They provide such a great service to our West Seattle community.

My heart is heavy for Tracy and their son.
